Did you know…….?
The current Sunshine Skyway Bridge can be seen from Anna Maria Island. It replaced the original bridge that was built in 1954. A freighter , the “MV Summit Venture” collided with one of the supports in a storm in 1980. The bridge collapsed sending cars and a Greyhound bus into the Tampa Bay killing 35 people. One gentleman survived the fall when his car landed on the deck of the “Summit Venture”.
